Planning Ideas Of Magazine Front Cover
Mast head title - Goes right across the top half of the page. needs to stand out so the readers can see it from a distance and requires to be named and looks appealing so that readers become familiarized with it. Big, Bold and easy to read.
Main Image - Has to be centered with the character/actor(s)looking at the camera so they connect with the audience.
* Mise-en-scene such as costume, facial and body expressions need to be clearly visible and highly effective. actor/character can be in role and in their costumes or if it is a well known e.g. A list actor, they do not have to be in character. Need to be able to tell what type of character they are, antagonist? protagonist? Need to be able to tell the genre of the film through the main image.
What type of magazine is it? Horror based or does it apply to all different genres of films and this edition is a slasher special?
MAIN IMAGE IDEAS
1. Freddie inside a dark prison, holding onto the bars looking at the camera with his angled which will make him appear slightly psychotic to scare and intrigue the audience
2. Group shot of the main characters including molly. The photos will be taken separately then placed together so the camera focuses on their mise en scene rather than focusing on one main person.
Sub Images - Allowed to use other films so that the magazine can look more realistic and appeals to a wider audience. Try out different shots, high angled, long, mid, mid-close up, dutch angle/tilt (see empire front page of the joker). Is the model in costume? Or is the model an actor promoting the film?
Are there any props, such as the knife, prison bars?
Experiment with different types of stills and lighting.
High angled shot - Model should be doing something with their hands (see Total Films - Johnny Depp in Charlie and the chocolate factory)
Look at black and white images (see Total Film - Star Trek). Lighting comes from the back to create shadows around his face.
Two shot - (see Total Film - Man of steel) looking away, subverting from magazine stereotypes. Two shots are unusual, mainly one shot or group shots are used on front covers.
Headline - needs to be short and effective so that it entices the audience. Text cannot be anywhere near the main images face, but can go off onto their clothing for example.
Sell Lines/Feature Films - Have a choice to either, make up other film names that relate to the genre if the magazine is a specific genre based magazine e.g. Stalker/Slasher, Or use real film names within the genre if required.
Layout Design - Colour scheme: Often within this genre, colours such as Red, black and white are used.
The text such as 'Chiller' with dripping blood is used to emphasize on the genre of the film. Conventions of texts throughout the magazines are not always the same. good to show a variety of texts so that the front cover is interesting and easier to look at.
Banners: Can be used either at the top of the page or at the very bottom of the page. Featured films are often used within the banner so that it makes them stand out. Banners are effective as they separate the sub headings from the main image.
Buttons: Are used to include sell lines such as 'Free poster inside!' to entice the readers.

This slowly led to an obsession where she was constantly on his mind and before he knew it she was ‘the one’…
After a few months of Freddie’s constant following, Molly notices him more and feels his presence and so she reported him to the police and got an injunction from the court. However this still doesn’t stop Freddy as he becomes better at concealing himself from her. One night she walks out from a club in London and he is there waiting for her. She thinks she’s being followed and walks in to an alley way where she bumps into a group of youths who are drunk and accidently stab her. Not realising that they have killed her, they run away. Freddy witnesses this but he was too late in saving her and by that time gets seen by a witness who walks past and tells the police he murdered her. He gets wrongly accused for killing her and is sent to prison for 10 years. Within this time the group have all gone their own ways in life, some becoming teachers and getting married. 5 years after his sentencing, Freddy comes out of prison wanting to seek revenge so he tracks them down and gets their loved ones first just like they got his loved one. One by one he dumps them in a basement and tortures them send a live video feed to the five people who killed Molly.
Mise en scene:
We will be using many types of props to make it look real and effective such as fake blood, knife, and various types of clothing to make the characters look real. Street lighting will be used when we’re filming in an exterior setting. The murderers will wear dark clothing, they will have drink bottles, their facial expressions will vary throughout the scene as they will be laughing when they first approach her but when she gets stabbed, they will be shocked and their body language would show horror. Freddy’s facial expressions will stay constant and abrupt.

Molly will be wearing a short dress with heels and heavy make up as she has just been on a night out. Her facial expressions will show fear throughout as she is firstly being followed then confronted by a knife the next.
Freddy’s victims later on will all be crying, make up will be used on the characters to show how hot the room is and blood will also be used to indicate they have been tortured by Freddy.

Conventions: We will follow conventions of a horror movie, using the same camera techniques and similar sounds such as screeching, crying, shouting and heavy breathing sounds.
Our unique selling point will be the fact that ‘it is based on a true story’ which intrigues the audience as they want to witness the horrific story of Molly.

Research and analysis
Textual analysis of teaser and full length:
The trailer for World War Z is effective in the respect that within the first 30 seconds of the trailer, the audience are immediately aware of the genre of the movie. This is because zombies and unusual looking helicopters, spaceships, vans and cars are used which gives an indication that this is an apocalyptic movie where the world is almost about to end. The protagonist of the movie is also shown in the first sequence of the trailer with his family which indicates that the movie ill be based around him and trying to keep his family/the world safe. The mise en scene used in the trailer is outstanding as you can tell how much money has been spent in in important things such as props and make up. The audience are aware of the creatures who are zombies mainly through their body language and their facial features as they make cannibalistic faces at the humans and start ripping and eating them up. The make up used on the zombies is also highly effective as they look scary with blood dripping down their mouth and their pupils are dilated making them look scary to look at. This may also suggest that the movie is a 12 or 15 rated movie due to the violence however there is no specific target audience for the movie as it is aimed at people who love apocalyptic/dystopian action movies.
The trailer follows the usual conventions of a movie trailer where it has numerous face paced sequences which tells the story line of the movie. this is effective as the audience get to know what the story is about and get to know the protagonist a bit more. The fact that the trailer only includes the famous actors name; Brad Pitt suggests that the movie will be high class as he is such a well known actor. This may also be a good way to attract the female audience as he is known for his looks thus they will go to watch the movie to watch their favorite actor. Brad Pitt is also known for featuring in many action trilled movies which suggests that this movie is similar.
The trailer begins with an establishing shot of a traffic jam in New York which then leads to a group shot of the protagonist having fun with his family in the car. This immediately suggests that he and his family have a tight bond and they may be going out. however a tracking shot is then used of an unusual looking motor bike driving at a fast pace, breaking the car's side mirror. Loud, oscillating music is then used throughout the trailer which continuously adds drama, tension and suspense which keeps the audience at the edge of their seats. Diagetic sound effects such as bombs, guns and helicopters are also used to make the trailer seems realistic which excites the audience particularly the ones that love action movies which helps sell the movie.
To conclude, the movie trailer is highly effective as it captivates the audience through the oscillation of the music and the fast paced sequences which keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats throughout making them want more and run to the movie theater to watch the movie.
